We found out during a recon outing the weekend before (races being cancelled because of the heat wave) that the course was going to be changed from 4 laps of a hilly 18 km, to 12 laps of relatively flat 6 km around Pelousey including a gravelly section along the motorway. Unfortunately no one told us which direction and we rode it the wrong way. On the day the course was harder but less dangerous! I attacked on lap 5 and lasted a lap in front. Benjamin counter attacked later in the race, made a group of 3 and took home the jersey. Bravo.
